Ramlila Fair
In the old Delhi's
Ramlila Ground,
The Ramlila fair used to bring
Thousands of joys.
In the evening with friends,
We would head to the fair,
Hundreds of stalls selling snacks,
Enticing games full of fun,
Like the Well of Death,
Shooting targets,
Ring toss, laughter filled golgappas,
Clown posters outside,
Inside Munni Bai’s dance,
Paper or plastic
Swords, maces, and bows and arrows,
And the crowd together
Made the fair a fair.
From afar, the sight of the Ramlila stage,
Big swings,
At night, everything
Shone in colorful lights.
Every face glowed with happiness.
After roaming the fair
For two or three hours,
When returning home,
There would be a bow and arrow in hand,
Or sometimes a mace or sword.
In life, many Ravanas met,
But never could wield
The bow and arrow, mace or sword,
Because never learned the weapon's art
From any teacher, ever.
